FANTASY REALMS
The Numinon Tarot
While the Numinon deck takes its primary influence from the traditions of Rider-Waite and Thoth, one of the shifts from tradition by the artist involves the treatment of the Royal House. Gone are the accoutrements of King, Queen, Prince and Princess. In their place reside Castle, Queen, Warrior and Acolyte.
Although, many of the characteristics carry through and are meant to be treated with similar applications in readings, removing the Prince and Princess genders from the developmental roles and instead translating the strengths of each as both student and protector. To this end, both genders are represented as Acolyte and Warrior throughout the suits.
Queens remain, reflecting the nature of their place as the undisputed lineal core to the Suit, a surety that only a matriarch can provide.
It is the position of the King, where the Numinon deck takes a different view. Rather than ‘King’, the ethos of the people takes his place in the form of the Castle, truly a formidable power and the fabric upon a lot of decisions are based.
In the Numinon deck the Suits of Wands and Pentacles were replaced with Quills and Roses respectively. The primary reason was to instill an organic nature to two of the suits whilst retaining their intent. Cups and Swords remain true to their original symbolic forms.
